CD4 Cells

CD4 cells (also known as CD4+ T cells) are blood cells that fight infection – we call them soldier cells. These soldier cells help your immune system destroy viruses, bacteria and other germs that may make you sick.
HIV attacks your CD4 cells and uses them to make copies of HIV.  As HIV does this, it destroys the CD4 cells, so you have fewer soldier cells to fight off sickness. Curious what CD4 numbers mean? Go here to learn more.
